August 2 zodiac sign
August 2 puts the Sun close to 10° Leo, the doorway between the first and second decans, where Sagittarius and its ruler Jupiter begin to widen the lion’s horizon.

August 2 in profile
Ten degrees into Leo the sign settles into its typical shape: proud, warm, organised around a sense of personal dignity. The second decan borrows from Sagittarius, so Jupiter colours the Sun here with appetite for ideas, travel and big pictures. Depending on the year, an August 2 birthday may fall at the very end of the first decan instead, so the solar pride can be purer, yet in most charts the mix is fire with a wide-open window.
Curiosity takes a showy form. They learn by explaining: a new subject becomes real once they have taught it to someone over dinner. Evening classes, long podcasts on history and a shelf of half-read books are typical. They prefer teachers with charisma, and if a lecture is dull they quietly start their own research on the phone under the table.
Freedom matters more than the Leo stereotype suggests. They commit to a person or a project with real loyalty, yet resent any schedule set without them. A partner who books every weekend in advance meets polite resistance. Keeping one day a month entirely unplanned, for a train ride or a drive with no fixed destination, keeps that Jupiter restlessness from turning into irritation at home.
Leo all day
In every year from 1930 to 2040 the Sun was in Leo for the whole of August 2, in every time zone. This is not a cusp birthday: the nearest changes of sign fall around July 23 and August 22.
Your Moon sign depends on the year
The Sun is in the same place on August 2 every year; the Moon is not. It changes sign every two and a half days, so people who share this birthday can have any of the twelve Moon signs. Here is where it was on August 2 in recent years, from 00:00 to 23:59 UTC (an arrow means it changed sign during the day).

Compatible signs for a Leo
Sun-sign compatibility starts from the element. Leo gets on most easily with its own element and with the two sextile signs, and feels the strongest pull from its opposite. For an August 2 birthday, in the Sagittarius decan, Sagittarius is a natural match. The full charts decide how a real pairing feels.
A gift for an August 2 birthday
A ticket for a talk, a tasting or a guided city walk somewhere they have never been, plus a notebook to record what they learned on the way back.
Asked about August 2
What zodiac sign is August 2?
August 2 is Leo in every year: the Sun is at about 8°–12° Leo that day, in the sign’s 2nd decan.
Is August 2 a cusp birthday?
No. The Sun is well inside Leo on August 2. The cusp days, when the Sun changes sign, fall around July 23 and August 22. Astrology has no blended cusp signs anyway: at any moment the Sun is in one sign.
What decan is August 2?
August 2 falls in the 2nd decan of Leo. In the triplicity system we use, that decan belongs to Sagittarius and its ruler Jupiter, which colours the Leo Sun with a little of Sagittarius. In some years the Sun crosses into the next decan during the day.
Your birthday is only the Sun
An August 2 birthday tells you where the Sun was. The Moon, the Rising sign and eight more planets each sit somewhere of their own, and they depend on the year, the hour and the place. The free calculator shows all of them.
