Questions

Asked often

What is the Moon phase today?

The card at the top of this page shows today’s phase, how much of the Moon is lit and its sign. The cycle runs New Moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, Full Moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, waning crescent, and takes about 29.5 days.

How long does the Moon stay in a zodiac sign?

About two and a half days, so it changes sign roughly every 2 to 3 days and visits all twelve signs in 27.3 days. Each monthly page lists the minute of every sign change.

What does void of course mean?

The Moon is void of course from its last exact major aspect (conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition) to the Sun or a planet until it enters the next sign. Traditional astrology advises against launching important plans in that window; it is a good time for routine work and rest.

Are the times in my time zone?

Yes. Once the page loads, every time is converted to the time zone of your device. The days in the table are UTC dates, so an event late in the UTC day can fall on the next date for you.

What it means

What the calendar shows

The Moon takes about 29.5 days to go from one New Moon to the next, and about two and a half days to cross each zodiac sign. The phase tells you how much of the Moon is lit; the sign tells you the flavour of the day in astrology: Moon in Taurus is steady and practical, Moon in Gemini is chatty and restless.

A void-of-course Moon is the stretch between the Moon’s last exact aspect to the Sun or a planet and the moment it enters the next sign. Astrologers have long avoided starting important things then. The calendar marks these windows to the minute, along with the traditional good days for beginnings, haircuts and the garden.
