January 9 in profile
Eighteen degrees is late in the middle stretch of Capricorn, and the sign here has the confidence of experience without the weariness of its last degrees. The second decan gives Venus and Taurus a say, which makes possessions and comfort part of the long-term plan. In a handful of years the Sun on this date already edges toward the third, Mercury-ruled decan, adding a sharper, more analytical tone. Either way, a January 9 Capricorn treats life as something to build carefully, stone on stone.
They are good with money in an unshowy way: a budget that is actually followed, a pension started early, bills on direct debit. Purchases are researched and then kept for years. They like things whose value holds, a well-cut coat or solid furniture, and they repair before they replace. Spending on others comes easier than spending on themselves, and a treat often has to be justified as an investment.
Ambition runs on a ten-year horizon. They know where they want to stand at fifty and plan the steps between, from qualifications to contacts. Setbacks slow them but rarely change the destination. Colleagues sometimes underestimate them until they are suddenly in charge. The real skill to learn is enjoying each stage instead of treating the present as a waiting room, perhaps by marking small milestones with a proper celebration.
Capricorn all day
In every year from 1930 to 2040 the Sun was in Capricorn for the whole of January 9, in every time zone. This is not a cusp birthday: the nearest changes of sign fall around December 22 and January 19.

Compatible signs for a Capricorn
Sun-sign compatibility starts from the element. Capricorn gets on most easily with its own element and with the two sextile signs, and feels the strongest pull from its opposite. For a January 9 birthday, in the Taurus decan, Taurus is a natural match. The full charts decide how a real pairing feels.
A gift for a January 9 birthday
A good leather wallet or a sturdy folder for important papers, practical and long-lasting, given with a handwritten note about a goal they are working toward.

Is January 9 a cusp birthday?
No. The Sun is well inside Capricorn on January 9. The cusp days, when the Sun changes sign, fall around December 22 and January 19. Astrology has no blended cusp signs anyway: at any moment the Sun is in one sign.
What decan is January 9?

Your birthday is only the Sun
A January 9 birthday tells you where the Sun was. The Moon, the Rising sign and eight more planets each sit somewhere of their own, and they depend on the year, the hour and the place. The free calculator shows all of them.
