Self-reliance runs through September 12, the last degree of Virgo’s Saturn decan at about 19°, where the sign has learned to stand on its own feet and to count carefully before it spends.

September 12 in profile
The nineteenth degree closes the middle of Virgo, and the second decan ends here too. Saturn, as sub-ruler through Capricorn, has given this stretch a disciplined, self-sufficient character. A September 12 Virgo has absorbed the sign’s lessons in usefulness and order and starts to want a little comfort as a reward. In some years the Sun on this date has already moved into the third decan, where Venus begins to soften Saturn’s demands.
Independence is practical. They would rather carry their own bags, cook their own dinner and keep their own account than rely on anyone else’s goodwill. In a shared flat they are the one with a separate shelf in the fridge. In relationships they need their own corner, their own hobbies and a say over their own diary. Travelling solo suits them, with a paper map, a rough plan and freedom to change it at lunch. Owing anyone a favour sits uneasily until it has been repaid.
Money is handled with care and some pride. They track spending, compare prices and keep a reserve that friends do not know about. Big purchases are researched for weeks, and they enjoy owning fewer things that last. The growth edge is spending on pleasure without a justification attached, because Venus is close by and has a point.
Virgo all day
In every year from 1930 to 2040 the Sun was in Virgo for the whole of September 12, in every time zone. This is not a cusp birthday: the nearest changes of sign fall around August 24 and September 22.
Your Moon sign depends on the year
The Sun is in the same place on September 12 every year; the Moon is not. It changes sign every two and a half days, so people who share this birthday can have any of the twelve Moon signs. Compatible signs for a Virgo
Sun-sign compatibility starts from the element. Virgo gets on most easily with its own element and with the two sextile signs, and feels the strongest pull from its opposite. For a September 12 birthday, in the Capricorn decan, Capricorn is a natural match. The full charts decide how a real pairing feels.
A gift for a September 12 birthday
A single indulgent item they would never justify buying, like a cashmere scarf or a fine bottle, given with a card that says it needs no practical purpose.
Asked about September 12
What zodiac sign is September 12?
September 12 is Virgo in every year: the Sun is at about 18°–21° Virgo that day, in the sign’s 2nd decan.
Is September 12 a cusp birthday?
No. The Sun is well inside Virgo on September 12. The cusp days, when the Sun changes sign, fall around August 24 and September 22. Astrology has no blended cusp signs anyway: at any moment the Sun is in one sign.
What decan is September 12?
September 12 falls in the 2nd decan of Virgo. In the triplicity system we use, that decan belongs to Capricorn and its ruler Saturn, which colours the Virgo Sun with a little of Capricorn. In some years the Sun crosses into the next decan during the day.
Your birthday is only the Sun
A September 12 birthday tells you where the Sun was. The Moon, the Rising sign and eight more planets each sit somewhere of their own, and they depend on the year, the hour and the place. The free calculator shows all of them.
