Sun opposite Moon

Full Moon births put your goals and your needs on opposite sides of the sky. You feel both pulls clearly and spend much of life learning to give each one its turn.

  • born at a full moon
  • sees both sides
  • partners as mirrors
  • swings between extremes
  • keen awareness of others

What it means

At a Full Moon the Moon faces the Sun from the opposite sign and is fully lit. In a chart your conscious aims and your emotional needs sit in complementary signs, such as Aries and Libra or Cancer and Capricorn, and neither can be ignored. You work out what you want by meeting its opposite. Traditional writers described Full Moon people as aware, objective and prone to swinging between extremes.

You probably see both sides of most arguments, which makes you a fair friend and a slow decider. You may live in one mode for a while, all career and late nights, then swing hard toward home. Other people often act out the side you neglect: the partner who wants to stay in when you want to go out, the boss who wants caution when you want speed.

Love and relationships

Sun opposite Moon shows most clearly in relationships. You are drawn to people who carry qualities you have but rarely express. Early on it feels like completion; later the same differences start rows. The fix is owning both halves yourself, so a partner can be a companion instead of your missing piece. Many people with the opposition become skilled at compromise, having practised it since childhood.

Work and the mind

You notice what a team is missing and can argue either case, which helps in negotiation, mediation, law and design. Commitment is harder. Once one direction looks settled, the other option starts to look better. Deadlines and outside accountability help. So does work that uses both sides of you, such as a public role with a quiet creative outlet.

Strengths

  • You understand opposing views, which makes you fair, persuasive and good at settling disputes.
  • Self-awareness grows from constantly comparing what you want with what you need.
  • Relationships teach you quickly, and you tend to grow wiser through them.

Challenges

  • You may swing between extremes instead of finding a middle that holds.
  • Partners can end up carrying the side of yourself you have not claimed.
  • Decisions stall when both options feel equally right and equally wrong.

The other Sun–Moon aspects

Its mirror image is Sun conjunct Moon, the New Moon birth, with will and feeling fused and an inward, single-minded tone. Sun square Moon keeps the struggle internal and more restless. The trine and the sextile let the two lights cooperate without that tug. With the opposition the tension is visible and usually met through other people, so relationships become its testing ground and its best teacher.

What changes it

A Full Moon birth is in orb for less than a day either side of exact, so the opposition is very individual. Within a degree or two the polarity dominates; closer to 10° it softens. The axis matters: across the first and seventh houses it is about self and partner, across the fourth and tenth about home and career. The signs show which values you are balancing.

Every aspect is coloured by the signs and houses of Sun and Moon in your chart, and by any other planets that touch them. Read it as one strand of the whole chart, never on its own.
