July 12 in profile
At the edge of its middle degrees, Cancer is experienced and assured. This date usually keeps the Sun in the Scorpio decan, ruled by Mars, but in some years it slips into the third, where Pisces and Jupiter take over. The blend is drive softened by imagination. Traditional astrology associates Castor, the mortal twin, with writing and a quick mind. A July 12 Cancer often has a way with words that serves a cause they care about.
Ambition tends to grow out of responsibility. They want stability for the people they love, then discover they are good at building it, and before long they are running something. The goals are concrete: a house, a business, a fund for a child. Progress is steady rather than showy, and they keep their plans close until they are nearly done. Mentors notice them because they finish what they start, and the reputation builds year after year.
First impressions run cool. Strangers meet a polite, slightly reserved person who asks more than they tell, and some mistake this for distance. Within an hour the humour appears, dry and well-timed. They read new people quickly and rarely misjudge them. The growth edge is offering a little warmth sooner, since not everyone waits for the second hour.
Cancer all day
In every year from 1930 to 2040 the Sun was in Cancer for the whole of July 12, in every time zone. This is not a cusp birthday: the nearest changes of sign fall around June 22 and July 22.
Your Moon sign depends on the year
The Sun is in the same place on July 12 every year; the Moon is not. It changes sign every two and a half days, so people who share this birthday can have any of the twelve Moon signs. Compatible signs for a Cancer
Sun-sign compatibility starts from the element. Cancer gets on most easily with its own element and with the two sextile signs, and feels the strongest pull from its opposite. For a July 12 birthday, in the Scorpio decan, Scorpio is a natural match. The full charts decide how a real pairing feels.
A gift for a July 12 birthday
A fine notebook and fountain pen for the plans they keep private, or a weekend writing workshop, giving that old Castor promise of a way with words a place to grow.
Asked about July 12
What zodiac sign is July 12?
July 12 is Cancer in every year: the Sun is at about 18°–22° Cancer that day, in the sign’s 2nd decan.
Is July 12 a cusp birthday?
No. The Sun is well inside Cancer on July 12. The cusp days, when the Sun changes sign, fall around June 22 and July 22. Astrology has no blended cusp signs anyway: at any moment the Sun is in one sign.
What decan is July 12?
July 12 falls in the 2nd decan of Cancer. In the triplicity system we use, that decan belongs to Scorpio and its ruler Mars (modern: Pluto), which colours the Cancer Sun with a little of Scorpio. In some years the Sun crosses into the next decan during the day.
Your birthday is only the Sun
A July 12 birthday tells you where the Sun was. The Moon, the Rising sign and eight more planets each sit somewhere of their own, and they depend on the year, the hour and the place. The free calculator shows all of them.
