Neptune in the signs

Neptune stays in a sign for about fourteen years, so its sign describes what a whole generation dreams about, idealises and later feels let down by.

What Neptune means

In a natal chart Neptune stands for longing: what you idealise, where you lose the edges of yourself, and what moves you past reason. It rules imagination, compassion, music, film, faith and fog. It also rules the things that blur judgement, from wishful thinking to glamour to the urge to escape. Modern astrology gives it rulership of Pisces; it was discovered too late to have a place in the traditional dignities.

Neptune takes about 165 years to circle the zodiac and spends roughly fourteen years in each sign. Everyone born across that span shares the placement, so the sign says more about a generation than about you alone: the ideals it grew up with, the art it made, the causes it romanticised and the disappointments it had to absorb. People with Neptune in Libra grew up on the promise of lasting love and peace; people with Neptune in Capricorn grew up wary of institutions and longing for ones they could trust.

The personal part comes from where Neptune sits in your own chart. Its house shows the area of life where you idealise and blur, and close contacts to your Sun, Moon, Ascendant or personal planets make it a strong voice in your character. To find your Neptune sign you only need your birth date; a free birth chart with your birth time and place also gives you its house.
