What Venus means
In a natal chart, Venus describes what you find beautiful and how you go after it. It covers the way you flirt, what you want from a partner, how you show affection and how you like to receive it. It also speaks for taste, pleasure and money in the sense of what you value enough to spend on, and for friendship: the people you see purely because you enjoy them. Traditionally Venus rules Taurus and Libra and is exalted in Pisces. It is in detriment in Scorpio and Aries and in fall in Virgo, signs where its easy charm has to work harder.
Venus spends about four to five weeks in each sign. Roughly every year and a half it turns retrograde, and then it can stay in a single sign for up to about four months. Because it never moves more than 47° from the Sun, your Venus is in your Sun sign or up to two signs either side of it. A Gemini Sun can have Venus anywhere from Aries to Leo, but never in Sagittarius.
That short stay makes Venus a personal planet. Two people born a month apart can have quite different romantic styles, and two friends with the same Sun sign may love in very different ways. To know which sign your Venus was in, you need your birth date; the house it falls in and the aspects it makes then add the finer detail.
